We had a lovely couple of nights at the Grapes hotel this December while Newcastleton was under a beautiful blanket of snow. The moment we arrived late in the evening, nothing was too much trouble. Our ensuite room was fanastic with ample room for us and our two young children. We were all made to feel very welcome and our children had a ball - there was even a well stocked toy box for them! The food in the evening was fantastic - very fresh - and the breakfasts set us up well. When we left Glynis sent us on our way with delicious sandwiches for our long journey back down to Eastbourne in the snow. We will be back - we are very interested in cycle tracks in the area. Thank you so much Glynis and Trevor we have already recommended you to our friends. Maggie, Neil, Madeleine & Edward

Have stayed eleven times (I think in 2009) while helping out at the new heritage railway at Whitrope. Great food and comfortable accomodation, a friendly atmosphere, always a warm welcome but what really makes it special is the commitment to service form all the staff: something lacking in too many places these days!

Keep up the good work.

A wonderful small friendly hotel in an area of beautiful countryside and with quick rideable access nearby to some fun mountain biking trails.

Thanks to you both and your staff for making our annual mountain biking weekend so great and especially for the warm hospitality and fantastic food and service we received particularly for our large group meal on Saturday night.

Will definitely be recommending

Just a quick note to say thanks for a wonderful stay over the Kielder 100 weekend and the support was much appreciated. We really couldnt have asked for any more.

Breakfast at 5am showed just how far you were prepared to go for us.

If i cant make it back up soon I will see you for the Kielder 100, 2010!!

I have come back to the Grape's for a visit every year since 2004.

Once a year I leave the heat of Texas for the cooler "clime's" of Scotland. Trevor, and his staff make it feel like a genuine "home coming".

I can not say enough about the good food and the friendly service.

Cycled from Norwich, through Kielder and was lucky to find the 'The Grapes', where I was fed, watered and slept like a log. The following morning due to foul weather the staff managed to get me on the bus to Carlisle (saving the soaking I would get cycling) leaving me to get the early train home. Warm, accomodating and friendly.

My wife & I visit Newcastleton fairly frequently because we have two elderly Aunts living in the village. We have lunched & dined in the restaurant many times & we recomend the excellent cuisine. Whether you eat in the lounge or in the Vine restaurant you will thoroughly enjoy the experience. The chef puts on an excellent menu & the hotel staff are very welcoming & professional down to the last detail. We will be back again in a weeks time & we are looking forward to taking the aunts out for another excellent meal at the Grapes.

Three of us cycled to Edinburgh from Kendal and stayed at the Grapes overnight on the 1st of August. It's an oasis in the middle of the border forests. We got a great reception, the bikes were stored safely and we had good food and drink for the evening. A 7-30 breakfast on sunday was no problem, full scottish, and the offer of packed lunch. The route north to Hawick is a long gradual climb of 10 miles and the a long run down to Hawick at 20 miles, great cycling country. A good place to stay and explore the borders by bike or a good overnight stop going north or south.

Having stayed in the Grapes for many, many years I can honestly say it's now better than ever. Staying there with my extended family last year was a real pleasure for us all; comfortable, clean accomodation and excellent food complimented by friendly, helpful staff. Well done to you all.

Trevor and his team looked after a dozen weary cyclists right royally and despite arriving after the chef's bed time, he cheerfully stayed on and cooked us fantastic food. We repaid Trevor by drinking him out of his best red wine!
